Do you make custom orders?
A: We absolutely take custom orders. If you have particular dimensions for a desk, table, etc., we can make them to your exact specifications. Depending on the size and type of wood you choose, it normally can take anywhere from 2 to 6 weeks. This is unless you have an extremely unique request; regardless we will work very closely with you to source the woods for your vision. We strive to get all products out as quickly as possible, but we want to ensure you receive the high quality product you are purchasing
Where do you get the wood from?
A. We carry the largest selection of tropical exotic wood slabs in St. Louis mainly sourced in Costa Rica. Our exotic slabs are personally picked from the best sources around the world. All of our slabs go through stringent process of milling, drying and surfacing. Only the best logs are milled into slabs to produce 2" and 3" thick slabs.
We first air dry our slabs 3-12 months to reduce moisture content with minimal stress. After air drying the slabs are then kiln dried at least 60 days at temperatures that rise to 180 degrees for optimal moisture content (10%-15% or less) Kiln drying is very important process to stabilize the wood, remove moisture content and kill any possible bug infestation and only proper drying schedules and temperatures and guarantee this. Homemade kilns cannot
achieve proper temperatures and drying schedules to stabilize and sterilize the
wood.
The final step is surfacing the slabs on our industrial surfacing machine. Our machine planes and drum sands both sides of the slabs perfectly flat ready to use.
What are my shipping options?
A: Anything under 120 pounds and 6' will be shipped via UPS/USPS/Fedex. The legs may ship separately from the main table, so they may arrive at different times. Anything over that, we will arrange a freight company to deliver the table to you. If the item is shipped freight, there will be an up-charge as we only include shipping for items that UPS/USPS/Fedex will take. We also have white glove services available for an additional fee. Please contact us for a shipping quote if ordering a table over 6' long. For things we have in stock, we aim for 2-3 weeks -- during busy times, it can be longer than that.
Is assembly required?
A: If it's under 150 pounds and 8', some minor assembly will be required -- mainly screwing the legs to the table. For larger and heavier items, we recommend two people help with the assembly, but you will only need a screwdriver or drill to complete the task.
What if my item is damaged during shipping?
A: Please take photos of the damage and we will make it right. Refer to our refund policy for more details.
Why does the wood have imperfections?
A: Wood expands and contracts all the time, specifically with hot/cold temperature changes or dry/humid changes as well. Most likely the wood will have knots, cracks, worm holes, and other character elements that we fill in with epoxy or leave as-is on your piece if it won't affect the structure of the wood. Large cracks will be filled with epoxy making it structurally sound. We can't guarantee the item will be free from defects, as each piece is unique. Since each piece is unique, the photos you see online were previous pieces that we made. Your item will be similar to what you ordered, but the grain patterns, color, and character elements will be different. We can't guarantee that something will look exactly the same. Custom pieces that you selected the wood will obviously be made from the exact wood slab selected and you will receive in progress update images as part of the process.
What do I need to do to care for the wood?
A: Our finishes are made to last a very long time. To clean the wood, we recommend using only a wet cloth, and to not use any harsh chemicals on the wood. If it's still dirty, we recommend a soft natural soap to get anything else off the surface. Years into the
future, you may need to renew the finish -- you won't need to sand or do anything difficult, our finish company has a solution called Renew that's available for purchase, and you simply rub that into the table and it's good as new. We recommend keeping your home at a normal humidity and temperature level, as if it gets too dry it can cause issues with the wood.
Do you work with woodworkers and designers?
A:
We absolutely do, please send us an email through our Contact Us page. We are happy to provide raw wood to woodworkers for their next adventure.
